NEW DELHI: Former deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia met his ailing wife on Saturday after permission by a city court.
Currently placed under judicial custody in Tihar jail in a case related to alleged excise policy scam, Sisodia had moved an application and sought permission to meet his wife, Seema, who is suffering from multiple sclerosis, for five days.Though theCBI and ED opposed the application, questioning the legal provisions under which the permission was being sought and added that Sisodia should have filed an interim bail application, a Delhi court granted him permission to meet her for six hours on Saturday from 10am to 4pm.
Accompanied by the police personnel, Sisodia reached his residence at Mathura Road in a prison van. Following the directions of the court, the AAP leader did not interact with the media. He spent the time allocated to him with the family. Sisodia was also seen performing a puja with his family members.
In June this year, Delhi HC had allowed Sisodia to meet his wife at his residence. But he had to return disappointed after his wife had to be admitted to the emergency ward of Lok Nayak Hospital following deterioration in her health.
While permitting Sisodia to meet his ailing wife, the court had directed him not to talk to mediapersons or indulge in any political activity. Sisodia was arrested by the CBI in the alleged liquor scam case in February this year.
Health minister Saurabh Bharadwaj told ANI that Sisodia’s wife was quite unwell and under a lot of mental stress since the former deputy CM’s bail plea was rejected.
