GURUGRAM: A bus driver died of burn injuries after the bus he was driving collided with a truck on the Delhi-Jaipur highway. The driver of the truck that first hit the bus has been booked for death by negligence and rash driving among other IPC charges.
The bus was run by a private company to ferry its employees from Gurugram city to its office at a village near Bilaspur. The drivers of the two trucks, and three others on the bus – cleaner, and two staffers of the company — were injured in the accident.
After the crash, fire tenders from Pataudi and Manesar stations rushed to the accident site and doused the flames, police said. The two truck drivers and four people on board the bus were taken to a hospital in Bilaspur, where the doctors declared Kumar dead. The others are undergoing treatment at the facility.
The cleaner, Rinku (20), told TOI he managed to rescue the others from the bus but not his uncle Rajesh.
“We work for a private company based in Pathreri. On Friday morning, more than 25 company employees boarded the bus from Gurugram. We dropped them at the office and were heading back to the city around 6am, when a speeding truck rammed our bus from the back around the Rathiwas U-turn. My uncle could not control the bus, which rammed another truck going towards Gurugram. I helped save the lives of two company staffers and jumped out of the bus as it had caught fire from a gas leak,” Rinku said.
“Our teams also reached the spot as soon as we got to know about the accident. Rinku told us about the entire incident. But we are checking CCTV cameras near the accident site,” the Bilaspur station SHO said.
An FIR based on Rinku’s complaint has been registered against the driver of the truck that hit the bus.
