New Delhi: A Delhi BJP delegation met police commissioner Sanjay Arora at Delhi Police headquarters on Wednesday to demand a probe into the “letters” being sent by chief minister Arvind Kejriwal — currently in ED custody — to his ministers.
Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva said the delegation sought a probe into whether the “letters” were genuine as well as the role of ministers Atishi and Saurabh Bharadwaj, who claimed to have received them.
Kejriwal was arrested on March 21 and remanded to ED custody till March 28 by a Delhi court in the excise policy case.
Sachdeva said he told the commissioner that Kejriwal was under the custody of the investigative agency and, lawfully, he cannot issue any note or letter to any minister or people. “But every other day, Kejriwal’s ministers are showing in press conferences letters written to them by CM,” he said.
The BJP delegation included party functionaries Praveen Shankar Kapoor and Vikram Mittal.
“The agency has said that it has not allowed Kejriwal any access to pen, paper or computer. So, the letters being shown by his ministers are suspicious and fake,” alleged Sachdeva.
Sachdeva said BJP demanded a police inquiry in the matter that would “bring out the truth of the misleading letters in public domain”.
Last week, Delhi water minister Atishi showed a purported note from Kejriwal during a press conference and claimed he had directed her to address issues related to water supply and sewers in the city. ED had responded by saying it would probe the party’s claim since no stationery is allowed for those in custody.
On Tuesday, Delhi health minister Bharadwaj claimed that Kejriwal had issued him directions from ED custody to ensure availability of free medicines and lab tests at the capital’s govt hospitals and mohalla clinics.
