NEW DELHI: Protests staged by the BJP and the AAP, positioned just a few hundred meters apart on DDU Marg in Central Delhi, resulted in prolonged traffic jams, leaving commuters stranded. The police barricaded roads and redirected vehicles as both parties demonstrated against different issues.
The AAP held a protest outside the BJP headquarters, alleging cheating in the Chandigarh mayoral polls, while the BJP protested near the AAP’s head office, citing “corruption” in the Kejriwal government.
The party headquarters for both BJP and AAP are situated on Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya (DDU) Marg, with less than 800 meters separating them. Traffic disruptions were notable on DDU Marg and its connecting roads, causing extensive jams at the ITO, a major intersection in the city. Barricades placed in various areas of Central Delhi contributed to bumper-to-bumper traffic on other routes as well.
“Diversions have been made for smooth flow of traffic. We are witnessing traffic on GT Karnal road and some parts of central Delhi. Staff have been deputed to manage the traffic jams,” said a senior official of the Delhi traffic police while talking to news agency PTI.
