NEW DELHI: A 50-year-old man allegedly hanged himself in a hotel room in central Delhi’s Paharganj on Friday. The victim, a CAG employee, lived in RK Puram, police said.
Upon receiving a call from the hotel around 10pm that a man was not opening the door of his room, police and a fire brigade teams broke open the door to find the victim hanging from the ceiling fan.He was rushed to the hospital, where he was declared dead, an officer said.
Investigation revealed that the suicide victim checked into the hotel at noon and told the staff that he would checkout at 9pm. “When the victim did not checkout at 9pm, hotel staff knocked on his door repeatedly but got no response,” said the officer.
There was no evidence of foul play and proceedings under section 174 CrPC were initiated, the officer said, adding, “We are trying to speak to the family to know the reason behind the extreme step”.

A flesh trade racket allegedly operated by a 17-year-old girl in Navi Mumbai has been busted by the police. Four women forced into prostitution were rescued during a raid at a hotel in Vashi area. The accused girl would keep a portion of the money earned and give the rest to the victims. The police confiscated cash, counterfeit currency, a mobile phone, and a watch. A case has been registered against the accused under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act-1956.
