NEW DELHI: Four people lost their lives and seven sustained injuries in a series of stabbings across various locations in northern Illinois. Authorities have confirmed that a 22-year-old suspect is in police custody and is currently undergoing questioning.
Rockford police chief Carla Redd further informed reporters that one of the wounded remains in critical condition.
Rockford Police received a medical call, followed by subsequent calls for police and paramedics. Chief Redd assured the public that there are no other suspects believed to be at large at this time, while the motive behind the attacks is not yet clear.
Not all victims found at multiple addresses in the city suffered stab wounds, and none were shot, according to Redd. Initial reports indicated five injured individuals, but Cori Hilliard, a public information officer with the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office, later confirmed two additional victims among those hurt.
Three people died at the scenes, while the fourth succumbed to injuries at a hospital. The victims were identified as a 15-year-old girl, a 63-year-old woman, a 49-year-old man, and a 22-year-old man.
Residents have been urged to review their home surveillance camera footage for any pertinent information related to the attacks.
Rockford, with a population of about 150,000, lies 90 miles northwest of Chicago. This incident occurred shortly after a teenage Walmart employee was fatally stabbed in the same city.
