NEW DELHI: The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) on Thursday said that security arrangements have been fully made for Rahul Gandhi and the leader himself violated guildelines on several occasions. The response comes a day after the Congress alleged security breaches during the ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra‘ in the national capital.
“Security arrangements have been fully made for Rahul Gandhi. It may be pointed out that during visits of the protectee the required security arrangements are made by the CRPF in coordination with state police and security agencies,” the force said.
In it letter to Union home minister Amit Shah, Congress general secretary KC Venugopal on Wedesday wrote that security was compromised on multiple occasions on the December 24 when the Bharat Jodo Yatra entered Delhi. He stated in the letter that Delhi Police completely failed in controlling the surging crowd and maintaining a perimeter around Rahul Gandhi, who is assigned Z+ security.
Dismissing the allegations, the officials said the security arrangements made for a protectee works fine when the protectee himself adheres to the laid down security guidelines.
The officials alleged that on several occasions, violations of laid down guidelines on the part of Rahul Gandhi have been observed and this fact has been communicated to him from time to time. “For instance, since 2020, there have been 113 violations observed and duly communicated,” they said.
Rahul was joined by former party president Sonia Gandhi and sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra last week when the march entered the national capital.
“The situation was so severe that Congress workers and the Bharat Yatris walking along with Rahul Gandhi had to form a perimeter,” Venugopal mentioned in the letter.
“I request you to take immediate steps to ensure the safety and security of Rahul Gandhi, a Z+ protectee,” the Congress general secretary wrote to Amit Shah.
In the letter, Venugopal also mentioned that two of the party’s two prime ministers – Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi – sacrificed their lives for the unity and integrity of the country.
