The Lok Sabha Ethics Committee has reportedly recommended the expulsion of TMC MP Mahua Moitra from the House in the “cash-for-query” matter. This is perhaps the first time the Ethics Committee of the Lok Sabha has recommended the expulsion of an MP.
She also said, “This is a pre-fixed match by a kangaroo court. Even if they expel me, I will be back in the next Lok Sabha with a bigger mandate.”
The committee, headed by BJP MP Vinod Kumar Sonkar, today adopted its report recommending Moitra’s expulsion. After the meeting, Sonkar told reporters that six members of the panel supported adoption of the report and four opposed it.

Four opposition members said the panel’s recommendation was “prejudiced” and “incorrect”.According to sources, Preneet Kaur, a Congress MP, is believed to have voted in support of the report.The panel has reportedly recommended Moitra’s expulsion from the Lok Sabha.Examining the allegations against Moitra, the committee will submit a ‘detailed report’ to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Friday, panel chairman Vinod Sonkar said.
“A report had been drafted by the Ethics Committee on the allegations against Mahua Moitra. The agenda of today’s meeting was to adopt the report. Six members supported the report while four members submitted their dissent notes…A detailed report is being submitted to the Lok Sabha Speaker tomorrow…The action, whatever it is, will be taken by the Speaker…,” Sonkar told the media.
