AIZWAL: Four Myanmarese and a cab driver from Mizoram were killed and three others injured when the vehicle ferrying them from Aizawl to a village on the Mizoram-Myanmar border plunged 150ft down a steep cliff near Champhai town around 4.40am on Friday.
The accident occurred close to Chhungte village when the cab was on its way to Zokhawthar, police said, adding that driver Lallunghnema (36) from Zokhawthar might have dozed off at the wheel..
The deceased Myanmarese have been identified as Ginsuankhup (32) of Sialtui, Mungsiandawng (37) of Pakzang (Myanmar), Parthai (30) of Kawilam and Tialliancheuva (37) of Chichai. While all the four were killed on the spot, Lallunghnema died in hospital. All the bodies, except for the driver, were sent to Myanmar after their postmortem. Two men and an infant, who were injured in the accident, are undergoing treatment in Champhai district hospital.
