But the trend seemed to have not paid off for this physical comedy and the movie reported only 4.3 crores nett collections over the 3-day holiday weekend. The film earned 90 lakhs on Friday, 1.4 crores on Saturday and 2 crores on Sunday. Compare this to the opening weekend, where the film managed to post collections of 20+ crores, and the downward trend is pretty apparent.
A report on BoxOffice India revealed that Ranveer’s double-role comedy was still facing stiff competition from Drishyam 2, which in its 7th week, was earning as much, if not more in theatres where both films were up for exhibition. Another major factor in Cirkus’ degrowth has been the success of Avatar: The Way Of Water.
While the Hollywood film caters to a totally different audience and by holiday standards has also underperformed over the New Year, its mere presence gave cinegoers another option to not choose Cirkus.
After two weekends and an entire week’s collections, Cirkus has managed to post 32.2 crores, which is well short of the expected 40 crore nett collections mark it was earmarked to do.
